Introduction:
I’ve said this before, and I say it again — Annamacharya
wrote only what he directly saw. This keerthana speaks of the origin
of the universe, the unfolding of consciousness itself.
One may wonder,
“How could a 15th-century poet describe a creation
that happened eons ago?”
Because what he saw was not in time. Such a vision
can arise only when one transcends time itself. That’s why calling this
composition mystical, matchless, one-of-a-kind is no
exaggeration — it is simply accurate.
As the Bhagavad Gita tells us, the world we
see is built from the five elements — matter shaped into form. Science confirms
this too: whether in our solar system or distant stars, matter remains the
same.
This brings both a quiet awe and a subtle disillusionment — as
if, even across the galaxies, nothing is truly new.
In such a dead, uniform material cosmos, the spark
of consciousness stands out as a deep mystery. Man searches the universe
for signs of the divine — a trace, a footprint, a whisper.
But this search remains forever unfinished.
In this keerthana, Annamacharya reflects
again and again on a piercing question:
Why does God continue the play of creation using worthless
material vessels — the cradles of the world?
In asking this, he exposes the human flaw of
judgement — of assigning value and worth to things based on ignorance. He
gently shakes that illusion.
Within cosmic consciousness, countless
processes are ever unfolding — across dimensions, through endless phases. Yet
man stands blind to this flow. That blindness is his bondage.
But Annamacharya?
He had stepped beyond that veil. He saw. He sang.
This is not a lullaby.
This is a hymn to the
One who rocks the cradle of the cosmos itself.

Details and Explanation:
First
stanza:
From the very beginning —
In a
cradle of banyan leaves —
The
Sri Ranga Child (శ్రీరంగశిశువు)
Has
been swaying ever so gently
In the
silent swing of day and night,
Enchanting
the world with his presence.
That divine grace —
Flowing
like the sacred Kaveri —
Spreads
its arms and embraces the world.
Yet He
—
Untouched by action,
Rests motionless in the Sri Ranga of the heart,
Merely
witnessing all.
Across countless ages —
It is
we who sway, caught in the illusions of our own making —
And in
that restless swing,
We
imagine Him to be in motion.
But He, with the gentle
smile
Fragrant
like milk at the corner of His lips,
Watches the world in serene stillness.
Creation
itself becomes the lullaby —
Singing
to Him in the quiet language of love.
Second
Stanza:
అదన
= అవకాశం, a chance; కమలజ= brahma; గమలభవాండమను= great celestial bodies, milky ways; గమలభవాండమనుతొట్టెల
= in the matters of the vast creation; ఉదధులు = oceans; తరంగములనూఁచఁగా
= rocked by the great waves; మాఁగీని = పరిపక్వస్థితికి
తీసుకొని వెళ్లు, to bring up maturity;
Lo, the lotus-born Brahma
— at the hallowed turning of seasons known as Tiruvārādhana,
Cradled
the vast celestial spheres as if they were mere swings,
And gently ushered in the first note of creation’s lullaby.
The expansive skies, the
galactic orbs,
The
shoreless oceans —
All
turned into a tender cradle for the Child Divine.
In the soft rocking of the
ocean’s waves,
In the
quiet shadow of time maturing,
The Sri Ranga Child(శ్రీరంగశిశువు), with undiminished
radiance
And
unbroken stillness,
Rests in sweet repose, in the lap of endless creation.
3rd
Stanza:
While the Vedas gently
bestowed head rest,
And Adishesha became the humble bed on which He reclined,
In that vast cosmic scene, a divine union occurred —
of Lord with Sridevi.
The Sri Ranga Child (శ్రీరంగశిశువు),
Filled with peace and unwavering stillness,
At the heart of the cosmic drama.
Explanation:
“శ్రీ దేవితోఁగూడి శ్రీ వేంకటేశుఁడై” is indicative of Annamacharya
becoming one with the God Venkateswara.
