ANNAMACHARYA

44 సడిబెట్టెఁ గటకటా సంసారము 

Introduction: Annamacharya somehow makes up fantastic words to present otherwise dull verse, glitter with life. In this verse he says life is like జలపూఁతబంగారు (meaning a body of water coated with a layer of gold) though glitters outwardly it contains nothing valuable inside. The entire verse runs on multitude of interesting and very apt similes.  

ఉపోద్ఘాతము:  అన్నమాచార్యులు అత్యద్భుతమైన పదాలతో మామూలుగా ఉండు శబ్దాలలోనూ జీవము చొప్పిస్తారు. ఈ కీర్తనలో సంసారమును జలపూఁతబంగారు అని వర్ణించారు.  జలముపై అతి పలుచని  బంగారు పైపూత అన్నారు. అనగా అది పైపైకి  మెరుస్తున్నా కూడా లోపల విలువలేనిదని అని సూచించారు. ఈ కీర్తన అంతా ఉపయుక్తమైన​ ఉపమానాలతో నిండి ఉంది. 

సడిబెట్టెఁ గటకటా సంసారము చూడ-

జడధి లోపలి యీఁత సంసారము         ॥పల్లవి॥ 

saDibeTTe gaTakaTA saMsAramu chUDa-

jaDadhi lOpali yIta saMsAramu ॥pallavi॥ 

Word to Word Meaning:  సడి (saDi) = troubles బెట్టెఁ (beTTe) = resulting; గటకటా (gaTakaTA) =  అయ్యో!, Alas; సంసారము (saMsAramu) = the mundane state of life; a householder's life; చూడ (chUDa) = on observation;  జడధి  = sea; లోపలి  = inside; యీఁత  = swimming; సంసారము (saMsAramu) =  a householder's life. 

Literal Meaning and Explanation: Alas!! As one observes closely, to overcome Trouble resulting from householder's Life are similar to (formidable task of) swimming across the sea. As it is impossible for commoners to cross the sea by swimming, it is as difficult to get liberated by this engagement of family matters. Swimming across the sea poses many threats. Same way the family life poses unimaginable challenges every moment. 

భావము :- అయ్యయ్యో ! సంసారము కష్టము దెచ్చి పెట్టినది. ఆలోచించగా ఇది సముద్రములోని యీతవంటిది. ఈతచే సముద్రము దాటుట అసాధ్యమైనట్లే సంసారములో నుండి ముక్తినొందుట సాధ్యముగాని పని. సాగరములోని యీత క్షణక్షణము ప్రమాదకరము. అట్లే సంసారములోని జీవయాత్ర సంకటకరము. 

జమునోరిలో బ్రదుకు సంసారము చూడ

చమురు దీసిన దివ్వె సంసారము

సమయించుఁ బెనుదెవులు సంసారము చూడ

సమరంబులో నునికి సంసారము          ॥సడి॥ 

jamunOrilO braduku saMsAramu chUDa

chamuru dIsina divve saMsAramu

samayiMchu benudevulu saMsAramu chUDa

samaraMbulO saMsAramu         ॥saDi॥ 

Word to Word Meaning: జము (jamu) = the YAMA, god of Death; నోరిలో (nOrilO) = inside  the mounth of ( yama); బ్రదుకు (braduku ) = this life; సంసారము (saMsAramu) =  a householder's life; చూడ (chUDa) = on observation;   చమురు (chamuru) = oil;  దీసిన (dIsina) = extracted out;   దివ్వె (dive) = wick; సంసారము (saMsAramu) =  a householder's life సమయించుఁ (samayiMchu) = చంపు, killing;  బెనుదెవులు (benudevulu)  = incurable disease; సంసారము (saMsAramu) =  a householder's life; చూడ (chUDa) = on observation;   సమరంబులో (samaraMbulO)  = inside a war zone; నునికి (nuniki ) = existence, dwelling (home);  సంసారము (saMsAramu) =  a householder's life.  

Literal Meaning and Explanation: this family life is similar living inside the mouth of death god (meaning any time one can lose his life). 

You may take that life is parallel to a burning wick without oil. (Will get extinguished sooner than you expect!. A family man does not know what trouble will fall upon him).

You are left with same time as a man suffering a terminal disease. (Meaning you have very little time left).  

Life has ever been similar to living in active war zone. (Meaning anytime a calamity could fall on your head in a war zone. The Family man is attacked by 6 enemies want, anger, infatuation, avarice, arrogance and envy all the while). 

భావము సంసారము యముని నోటిలో బ్రదుకు వంటిది. తననోట జీవించువానిని యముడు ఏ క్షణమునందైన కబళింపవచ్చును. అట్లే సంసారమున నున్నవాడు ఎప్పుడైన ప్రమాదమునకు గురికావచ్చును.

సంసారము చమురుదీసిన వత్తి వంటిది. ఆ దీపము చక్కగా వెలుగక ఆరిపోవుటకు సిద్ధముగానున్నట్లే. సంసారి సుఖస్థితి నొందక మృత్యుముఖమున బడుటకు సిద్ధముగా నుండును.

సంసారము మందు లేని రోగము వంటిది. దినదినమునకు క్షీణింపజేసి చివరకు ప్రాణము దీయును. సంసారము గూడ జీవుని శమదమాది గుణములను హరించి స్వాతంత్ర్యహీనుని జేసి చివరకు మృత్యుముఖమున బడద్రోయును.

సంసారము యుద్ధ భూమిలో  ఇల్లు వంటిది. రణరంగమున నున్నవాడు నలువైపులా శత్రువులచే ముట్టడింపబడి దెబ్బలు తినుచూనే ఉండును. అట్లే సంసారియు కామ, క్రోధ, మోహ, లోభ, మద, మాత్సర్యాలు అనే ఆరుగురు శత్రువులచే ఆక్రమింపబడి బాధ మరియు క్షయము నొందును

 

సందిగట్టినతాడు సంసారము చూడ

సందికంతలతోవ సంసారము

చుందురునిజీవనము సంసారము చూడ

చంద మేవలెనుండు సంసారము         ॥సడి॥

chuMdurunijIvanamu saMsAramu chUDa

chaMda mEvalenuMDu saMsAramu   ॥saDi॥ 

Word to Word Meaning:  సంది upper arm(s) గట్టినతాడు = rope binding సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life; చూడ (chUDa) = on observation;   సందికంతలతోవ = ఇరుకైన అడ్డత్రోవలతో, గొందులతో నిండిన దారి A narrow path with many criss crossings, an alleyway;  సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life;   చుందురునిజీవనము = moon’s life (it keeps cycling/varying from day to day, never constant);.సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life;  చూడ (chUDa) = on observation;    చంద మేవలెనుండు = man’s life is like moon’s (  never  on an even keel), సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life;  

Literal Meaning and Explanation: this life of family man is like man travelling with both upper hands bounded. Such a man cannot travel freely.   

Life for a family man is like సందికంతలతోవ (an alleyway). A travel thru such narrow lanes is disgusting and tiring.

Family Life is similar to the life of moon. Like the phases of moon, his life is filled with ups and downs. Such life is never on even keel and potentially troublesome.  

భావము సంసారము మనిషి  పైచేతులను  త్రాడుతో కట్టివేసిన చందమున ఉండును. అలా బందింపబడినవాడు ముందుకు పోజాలడు. అట్లే సంసారగతుడు ముక్తి మార్గమున స్వేచ్ఛగా పయనింపలేడు.

సంసారము సందికంతల త్రోవ వంటిది. ఇరుకైన గొందులతో గూడియున్నచో పయనము మిక్కిలి ప్రయాసకరము. అట్లే సంసారమార్గమున నడచుట క్లేశావహము,

సంసారము చంద్రుని జీవనము వంటిది. చంద్రుని బ్రదుకు వృద్ధిక్షయములతో గూడి నిలకడ లేకుండును. అట్లే సంసారులు గూడ నానావిధములైన ఆయవ్యయ – సుఖదుఃఖాది - వృద్ధిక్షయములకు లోనై కుదురుపాటు లేక కష్టపడుచుందురు

చలువలోపలివేఁడి సంసారము చూడ

జలపూఁతబంగారు సంసారము

యిలలోనఁ దిరువేంకటేశ నీదాసులకు

చలువలకుఁ గడుఁజలువ సంసారము ॥సడి॥

jalapUtabaMgAru saMsAramu

yilalOna diruvEMkaTESa nIdAsulaku

chaluvalaku gaDujaluva saMsAramu

Word to Word Meaning: చలువలోపలి (chaluvalOpali) = heat inside coolness;  వేఁడి (vEDi) = heat; సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life; చూడ (chUDa) = on observation;    జలపూఁతబంగారు (jalapUtabaMgAru) = జలముపై అతి పలుచని  బంగారు పైపూత, A body of water coated with a layer of gold;  సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life; యిలలోనఁ (yilalOna) = in this world; దిరువేంకటేశ (diruvEMkaTESa) = Lord Venkateswara;  నీదాసులకు (nIdAsulaku) = your (true) servants;  చలువలకుఁ (chaluvalaku) the one comforting/ pleasing;  గడుఁజలువ (gaDujaluva) = much deeper ( much better)  comforting/ pleasing; సంసారము (saMsAramu) = this householder's life.

Literal Meaning and Explanation: This family life appears to be cool and comforting. However, it’s like a camphor, holds much heat inside. The camphor would readily ignite. Same way, this family will throw you into uncertainties (without you knowing).

Family life is like a body of water coated with a layer of gold. Though glitters outwardly it contains nothing valuable inside.

Life for the true servants of GOD, (even having family), enjoy comforts beyond description.

భావము కాని పైకిచూచుటకు మాత్రము సంసారము మిక్కిలి చక్కగా నున్నట్లుండును.సంసారము పచ్చకర్పూరమువలె చలువ లోపల వేడితో గూడినది. పైకది చల్లగా సుఖాస్పదముగా కన్పించినను నిజముగా దుఃఖాకరమైనదని భావము. 

మరియు నీటిపై బంగారు పైపూత​ వంటిది. పైకి మెరుస్తూ, మెరుగుగా గన్పించినను లోపల విలువలేనిదని గ్రహింపదగినది. 

ఇట్లైనను శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరుని దాసులకు మాత్రము సంసారము చలువలకు చలువయై భాసించుచున్నది. అనగా భగవంతుని భజించి తదనుగ్రహమునకు పాత్రులైనవారు సంసారములో నున్నను క్లేశము నొందరని తాత్పర్యము.
