54. ఊరులేని పొలిమేర పేరు పెంపు లేని బ్రతుకు 

Introduction: I am tempted to insert this beautiful shrumgara (శృంగార) Keertana in serious philosophical presentations. Here, Annamacharya assuming the position of a lady-help is advising a beautiful young lady who is in deep love and awaiting Lord Venkateswara. Please read the counselling he gives to her. 

ఉపోద్ఘాతము: ఈ శృంగార కీర్తనలో ఒక అందమైన యువతికి,  అన్నమయ్య తనను ఒక స్త్రీగా ఊహించుకొని చెప్పు సందేశము. ఆ  యువతి వేంకటేశ్వరునికై ఆశగా నిరీక్షిస్తూ ఉంటుంది. అతడామెకిచ్చు  సలహా యేమిటో చూద్దాము. 

ఊరులేని పొలిమేర పేరు పెంపు లేని బ్రతుకు

గారవంబు లేని ప్రియము కదియనేఁటికే         ॥పల్లవి॥

Word to Word Meaning: ఊరులేని (UrulEni) = where no village/town exists; పొలిమేర (polimEra) = outskirts; పేరు (pEru) = name; పెంపు (peMpu) = development;  లేని (lEni) = without; బ్రతుకు (bratuku) = life;  గారవంబు (gAravaMbu) = dignity;  లేని (lEni) without; ప్రియము (priyamu)  = love; కదియనేఁటికే (kadiyanETikE) = Why advance closer

 

Literal Meaning and Explanation: My dear young lady “why are you waiting for a non-existent place (it is neither in the village, nor at the outskirts). Are you still not sure of nameless, prideless life? What a waste of time is this unreciprocated love?” (You are foolishly trying to possess pointless things in your heart) 

Implied meaning: O Lady do not expect borderless infinite and immeasurable movement called life/love (Lord Venkatesa) is only for you. 

భావము & వివరణము : ఊరు ఉంటే పొలిమేర ఉంటుంది. ఊరు లేక పొలిమేర ఉండదు. పేరు మర్యాదలేని బ్రతుకు వ్యర్ధం కదా! గారవము లేని ప్రేమ నిరుపయోగమే. అటువంటి వాటి కోసము ఉవ్విళ్ళూరుతున్నావు.  (అమాయకురాలా నువ్వు అనవసరమైన దాన్ని గుండెల్లో ప్రియముగా దాచుకుంటున్నావు.). 

అన్వయార్ధము: ఓ అమ్మాయీ! పొలిమేరల్లేని  వెంకటేశుని (అనంత ప్రవాహమైన ఆ పరమాత్ముడి) ప్రేమ నీ ఒక్కదానకే అందుతుందనుకోకు.  

ఉండరాని విరహవేదన వుండని సురతసుఖమేల

యెండలేని నాఁటి నీడ యేమిసేయనే

దండిగలుగు తమకమనెడి దండలేని తాలిమేల

రెండునొకటి గాని రచన ప్రియములేఁటికే      ॥ఊరు॥

Word to Word Meaning: ఉండరాని (uMDarAni) = unbearable; విరహవేదన (virahavEdana) = విడిపోవుట యందు కలిగే బాధ​/క్షోభ​,  the pangs of separation from or absence of  love; వుండని (vuMDani) = non existent; సురతసుఖమేల (suratasukhamEla) =స్త్రీ పురుషుల కలయికలోని సుఖము, enojoyment in meeting;  యెండలేని నాఁటి  (yeMDalEni nATi) = on a clody day; నీడ (nIDa) = shade; యేమిసేయనే (yEmisEyanE) = what utility it is;  దండిగలుగు (daMDigalugu) = much that get generated;  తమకమనెడి (tamakamaneDi) eagerness, impatience; దండలేని (daMDalEni) = not near, not in proximity; తాలిమేల (tAlimEla) why Endurance/ patience; రెండునొకటి గాని (reMDunokaTi gAni) = both not in one another; రచన (rachana) = design ప్రియములేఁటికే       (priyamulETikE) = why do you love? 

Literal Meaning and Explanation: My dear young lady: your longing for the lord is understandable. Peculiarly, this pain of love becomes intolerable once you become aware of the impossibility of meeting your lover. What use is of shade on a cloudy day? Your lover is far away. Where this eagerness should dissipate to? Why should you fall in love, if not for being in oneness (with HIM)? 

Implied meaning: Stupid: this is your imagination that you are separate from him. Your feeling that you did not become one with him is just an illusion. Why do not you set aside your desires, these pangs of separation and have clear look at him. O moron!! When both your minds are one and the same, then there is no need to exhibit your passion. 

భావము & వివరణము : జవ్వని!! విడిపోవుట యందు కలిగే క్షోభ భరింపరానిదే! సమాగమము లేనప్పుడు అంతులేని విరహము దండుగ మారి వ్యవహరమే! కదా! యెండలేని నాఁటి నీడ ఉండి ప్రయోజనము లేనిదే? దండిగా ఉన్న తమకమునకు తాలిమితో పనియేమి? ఇద్దరు ఒక్కటి కాకపోయాక, ఎంత ప్రేమ వొలకబోసినా అదంతా యెందుకు? 

అన్వయార్ధము: పిచ్చిదానా! విడిపోయావని నువ్వనుకుంటివి. ఇద్దరు ఒక్కటి కాలేదని అనుకొంటావు. ఇదంతా నీ భ్రమ. నీ విరహన్ని, తమకాన్ని పక్కనబెట్టి, నీ మనస్సు అతనిలో కలిపి చూసావా? ఆ మనసులు రెండూ ఒక్కటి కాకపోయాక, ఇంత ప్రేమ వొలకబోయ డమెందుకో​? 

మెచ్చులేనిచోట మంచిమేలు గలిగీనేమి సెలవు

మచ్చికలేనిచోట మంచిమాటలేఁటికే

పెచ్చు పెరుగలేనిచోట ప్రియముగలిగి యేమిఫలము

ఇచ్చలేనినాటి సొబగులేమి సేయనే     ॥ఊరు॥

Word to Word Meaning: మెచ్చులేనిచోట (mechchulEnichOTa) = where praise is absent;  మంచిమేలు (maMchimElu) = very favourable (situation);  గలిగీనేమి సెలవు (galigInEmi selavu) = what use is of happening;   మచ్చికలేనిచోట (machchikalEnichOTa) = at an unfamiliar place; మంచిమాటలేఁటికే (maMchimATalETikE) = why good words;  పెచ్చు  పెరుగలేనిచోట (pechchu  perugalEnichOTa) = హెచ్చుగా వర్ధిల్లని, (a thing with) not much growth; ప్రియముగలిగి (priyamugaligi) =having warmth ( in the heart);  యేమిఫలము (yEmiphalamu)  = what use?; ఇచ్చలేనినాటి (ichchalEninATi)  = where desires don’t rake up;  సొబగులేమి సేయనే (sobagulEmi sEyanE) = what use is of Beauty and prettiness? 

Literal Meaning and Explanation: Annamayya, making further in roads:  “Did he ever compliment your beauty? Do you really have such acquaintance to know his mind?  Why continue relationship wanting of admiration and love? I understand, he is rather impassive. What avail is of your beauty and prettiness with such one?” 

Implied meaning: O simpleton! don’t anticipate compliments from the embodiment of indifference. I do not think you know HIM who is as old as time. O drab!! Will you stop relationship with Him just for want of few words and strokes? O Silly!! What use is of your beauty and prettiness to HIM? (Wish for him deeply within your heart as if nothing else exists.).

భావము & వివరణము : అన్నమయ్య ఇంకొంచము ముందుకెళ్ళుతూ ఏమే! (నీ అందాలు చూచి) అతడు నిన్నెప్పుడైనా మెచ్చుకున్నాడా? నీకు (నిజంగా) అతని మనసు తెలియునంత పరిచయం ఉందా? మెచ్చు, పెచ్చు లేనిచోట మంచిమాటలేఁటికే? కోరికల్లేని వాడి మన్సులో నీ సొబగులేమి ఇచ్చ రేపునే? 

అన్వయార్ధము: పిచ్చిదానా! నిర్లిప్తతకు ప్రతియైన అతడు మెచ్చుకుంటా డనుకోకు. ఆదియనాది లేని వాడి మనసు తెలియునంత పరిచయం ఉందనుకోవచ్చా? మెచ్చు, పెచ్చు లేదని  మంచిమాటలాడ్డం వదిలేస్తావా? వెర్రిదానా! నీ సొబగులు చూపించి వాడిలో కోరికల్లేపలేవే! ( గాఢమైన ప్రేమతో అతడు తప్పించి వేరేమీ లేదని  తపించి చూడు)  

బొంకులేని చెలిమిగాని పొందులేల మనసులోన

శంకలేక కదియలేని చనవులేఁటికే

కొంకుగొసరు లేని మంచికూటమలర నిట్లఁ గూడి

వేంకటాద్రివిభుఁడు లేని వేడుకేఁటికే       ॥ఊరు॥

బొంకులేని (boMkulEni) = without trace of falsehood;  చెలిమిగాని (chelimigAni) = is true friendship; పొందులేల (poMdulEla) = why to meet (physically);  మనసులోన (manasulOna) = in the mind; శంకలేక (SaMkalEka) = without doubt;  కదియలేని = (kadiyalEni) = that cannot bring close;  చనవులేఁటికే (chanavulETikE) = what use is of affection? కొంకుగొసరు లేని (koMkugosaru lEni) సంకోచము లేని, without Hesitation or reluctance; మంచికూటమలర (maMchikUTamalara) blossom into great assembly  నిట్లఁ (niTla) = this way; గూడి (gUDi) = joining;  వేంకటాద్రివిభుఁడు లేని (vEMkaTAdrivibhuDu lEni) without Lord Venkateswara;  వేడుకేఁటికే (vEDukETikE) = can there be celebration. 

Literal Meaning and Explanation: “Is it not that guileless friendship is his company! You blend into him keeping away those nagging doubts and differences in the mind. Your unconditional love will bring him close to you. Do not try to exhibit superficial affection.  Without fear and confusion take the name of Lord Venkatesa. All the multi-faceted effulgence is the  Lord himself.” 

Implied meaning: “DO not be silly!! He is aware of your insincerity and love. However, leaving all the doubts, fill him in your mind. He shall not fall to any trickery. Just submit to him with all your might.  There is no celebration without the ultimate.” 

భావము & వివరణము : కపటమేలేని స్నేహమే అతడి పొందు కాదా? మనస్సులో యేమాత్రం శంకలు అరమరికలు లేకుండా అతనితో కలసిపో. నీ ప్రేమే అతడిని దగ్గరకు తీస్తుంది.  కాని పై పై చనవులు (ఆప్యాయతలు) యెందుకు? కొంకుకొసరు లేని (భయము, సంకోచము లేనట్టి) మంచి భక్తితో శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరుని వేడుకో. వేంకటాద్రివిభుఁడు లేని వేడుక ఎక్కడిదే? 

అన్వయార్ధము: నీ కపటాలు, నీ చెలిమి అతడికి తెలియవను కొంటున్నావా?  మనస్సులో యేమాత్రం శంకలు అరమరికలు లేకుండా అతనికి మనసిచ్చెయ్యి. పై పై ఆప్యాయతలకు అతడు పడిపోడు. ఇక భయము, సంకోచము  లేకుండా శ్రీవేంకటేశ్వరుని వేడుకో. శ్రీహరియే లేని వేడుకేఁమిటో?
