About ANNAMACHARYA

Annamacharya is a saint poet of 15th century. Most of his works have have been lost with the time. However, because of a quirk incident in1922 lead to finding about 14000 verses engraved on copper leaves in Tirumala temple. TTD took the task of popularizing these verses through various artists.

His prose/poetry is a rich mix of Vedanta and his own observations on society of his time. He presented poems in colloquial Telugu of tirupati region. They are not only deep, but throw great insight into human dilemma. You shall witness modernity in his writing, despite being more than 500 years old.

Most unique part of his style is that he does not give sermons from a high podium, but sits along with the audience with empathetic understanding of human predicament.

Interestingly, he said education of his times failed to make man free. He observed often that education was limited to livelihood. (Note that this is a five hundred year old view).

He often said, we are living insipid life. He encouraged people to live with great intelligence. (We shall see these poems as well). He analyses and puts before us to see our current state of mind. He always underlined the human effort in submitting the will to the God in his verses.

Though known as devout hindu religious poet, his observations are so modern that few similarities can be identified in iconoclastic explorers like Jiddu Krishnamurthi's works/statements. At certain points he appears to be completely out of sync with Indian philosophical thinking. Yet his accurate description of the feelings makes him true to the point.

Annamacharya's originality brings freshness in putting the ideas across, tangible understanding of human feelings and stirs up ideas for finding elusive path to the truth.

His down to earth writings makes him to come acorss with the masses. yet, his writings have the natural flow of language. His songs ring beatiful in the minds of the listeners. They normally encourage people to explore further.

His choice of words rake up deep sense of life's true purpose and indescribable feeling those words otherwise could not generate individually. His works are devine gift to the world.

Finally, Annamacharya is just not a composer of melodious verses, not a social reformer, but great explorer of human feelings and took the poetry to synchronise with emotions our daily existence. This single achievement makes him stand tall.
